I don't think I ever posted anything from my paleography class this past semester, so I'll try to scan some of that once I can get my hands on it- in the meantime, here's an alphabet I scripted based on an illuminated manuscript of Honoré Bonet's L'Arbre des Batailles. I love the batarde scripts- a sort of cursive version of the gothic texturas- so this was fun:

there are two d's, and it ends on u and y... This script didn't have x's or z's.

It's like the monk had giggle-fits when he got to the end of the alphabet. What's going down after 'r'? Are those two s's?

oh, whup, two s's as well, yes. They wouldn't have necessarily written out the alphabet like this- the different forms of the letters had reasons for existing in accordance with whatever letters they were before and after.

People don't know about ligatures? I must have been taking crazy pills. :O

Anyhoo, if you want to turn this into a computer font, check out Fontifier, an entirely web-based font creation tool.
