Instead of appreciating the fact that the majority of the populus enjoys the Academy Awards, that we all take solace in movies, lose ourselves in their romanticized stories, they decide to downplay them. Not only are they planning a more somber hosting (can Steve Martin be somber...?), but they're not doing the red carpet this year. I mean, what are they thinking!?
People love the red carpet! We don't want to have to focus on war or politics on the one weekend out of the year that we don't have to. Don't make the burden of war heavier just to get our attention- we're not ignoring it, obviously, we just need a little something to lighten our spirits... And yet they begin to take even that away from us.
Well, at least I can say I went to the Oscars four days after our declaration of war Huh, facny that.
