The combination of recently blasting through Dragonblight and Marissa cosplaying as Alexstrasza for Blizzcon has had me dying to put the pretty lady to paper; sketched this at work today and decided to finish it up when I got home. :)

So I'm only mildly ashamed to say tesseracting and I spontaneously decided to drive up to Forks, WA a few weeks back, the Twilight audio book barking wretchedly off of my iPod for the entire trip. I am in that uncomfortable situation where I have read all of the books and see them for the dreck they are, and yet am drawn to everything surrounding them in an almost masochistic way. Judging from our own drive up the coast of the Olympic peninsula at about midnight,however, I could not help but picture the driving section of the book going more like this:

SO GUYS, this is sort of belated, but I spontaneously drove down to the Stumptown Comics Fest last Saturday morning and had an amazing time and feel compelled to tell everyone about it and pimp all the awesome people I met.

I would be lying if I didn't say a large reason for my visit was to pick up Dylan Meconis' Bite Me! book and related accoutrements, something I've been wanting ever since I printed out the whole damn thing in high school. I also threw all of my money at Dylan a few weeks back so I could acquire the original art for the cover, and it makes for a pretty awesome complete set:



If you do not know of Dylan's work stop what you're doing now, check out her stuff, and start following her current sequential endeavor, Family Man. If you're a fan of accurate 18th century costuming and eerily smart wit, also werewolves, you won't be disappointed.

I also got to spend most of my weekend hanging out with the inimitable Erika Moen, her amazing husband Matt Nolan, and my most recent artist crush Lucy Knisley (who's hubby John is also a sweetheart). I've been following Erika's comic DAR: A Super Girly Top Secret Comic Diary for years, so getting a print copy and getting to spend the weekend practically hanging off of her and Matt was nothing short of a joy. Lucy is a more recent discovery of mine (thanks to Erika, in fact), and she sports this amazingly charming, Tintin-esque ligne claire style:



She is just as smart and nice as her drawings, thankfully. She is also a complete geek (which endears her to me greatly) and painted a fabulous series of fandom portraits that span from Venture Bros. to Oscar Wilde to Kids in the Hall, so they're worth checking out.

It is late and I am not sure how much longer I should rave about these people, so here's a photo of my combined ECCC/Stumptown loot to tide everyone over:

OH MAN, almost forgot- not to reduce it to a postscript or anythin', but I also got to go out for drinks with buttfacemakani when she came up to visit Valve the Thursday before last, and it was a blast. Surprise, she is also cool in real life! Wow.

If you remember some previous posts of mine, we had a tradition going at risd where our Valentine's Day celebration would revolve around exchanging love letters or presents from fictional characters... Luckily our friend Casey kept the flame alive this year and had us conduct and absentee exchange. Seeing how there's about a half hour left to Valentine's Day, I think I'm allowed to post what I made.

I had two assignments the year- Bertie Wooster for my friend Lia (the result of which is very verbose and not exactly photo-worthy) and Kida, from Atlantis: The Lost Empire, for my friend Alex. The kit consisted of a note in Atlantean, Whitmore's translation, and an aqua quartz crystal that I wire-wrapped into a necklace:

Art! I do art for myself, occasionally, in between work and freelance. Not much, but it's there. I've been itching to paint a South American boa medusa for a few weeks now, and so I sketched this at a recent meeting and finished it up tonight. There are non-sexual boobs involved, so possibly NSFW:

My dear friend, der Baron von Fogel, has been pestering me to post photos of my new place now that I'm so very close to being completely settled in. I'm starting to realize that I'll never be finished with the place- especially considering that I plan on hanging more art and, you know, painting the walls- so it seemed as good a time as any to get it over with and post photos. And, to fully drill in the trappings of domesticity, I've been cooking!

I completely forgot to mention this earlier on when I finally prettied it up, but my Perdita!© tile coasters, the ones with the subversive toile and all that fun stuff, are available on CafePress for your purchasing pleasure. I also put up a ceramic stein based on the cup design I did, so enjoy. I'm hoping to add more items later, but this should do for now.

I was sorting through old art in the garage and stumbled across one of my favourite drawings from my childhood- I've been looking for this for a while, so this is a triumph.
