I spent a lot of time at Comic-Con pretending I was nice to Gryffindors, but you can see in my eyes- and in the photo of me totally dueling with that Potter boy- that there was always some DE-style pwnage afterwards.
I think my wand was in my snake cane...?
... And a shot of me and the big guy, just sort of chilling. As we are wont to do.
The costume grew from the brief but arguably bad-ass shots of the DE masks in the OotP trailers and this sketch:
I tried to work with what I could see of the costume, and went for something basic rather than overcomplicating things as with my original idea of some fancy corseted get-up. Of course, the moment I would finish a piece of the costume, more references would mysteriously appear on the internet, but I eventually gave up on trying to make it completely movie accurate and just did my own thing. The cloak is hand-lined, and the jacket underneath is fitted to me and has tons of buttons. I'll get better shots of it later, but this should give you the general idea.
The mask was made by casting my face in plaster, sculpting on top of the cast with Sculpey, vaccuforming the shape in plastic, and then slowly but carefully cutting out all of the various holes... The gothic-esque mouthpiece was a bit of a bitch, but it was worth it in the long run. The final mask is awesome, if only because it fits my face exactly and is marvelously light.
And that's how I became a Death Eater, kids- don't try this at home!
