1886 Vulcanologist

San Diego Comic-Con was this past week, as I'm sure most of you know, and I've spent the past few months sewing like a madman in an attempt to make my Victorian vulcanologist costume show-ready. I've had the concept drawn out for almost a year now, and it felt good to finally see it come to fruition.

Comparison of concept to final product- cut the gaiters to avoid khaki over-saturation, and the mosquito netting... Well, I just didn't like the idea in the long run. The costume consists of a corset, wire bustle, underskirt, waterfall overskirt (which was drifting dangerously to the right by the end of the day), and a fully-lined and -boned bodice:

The rest of my kit included various vulcanology-related accoutrements- lava-covered glove, rock pick, field glasses, 1883 geological survey of Hawaii, pith, collapsible cup, clinometer, sam browne belt and pouches, and a lava-collecting tin:

My good friend the Baron von Fogel and I standing about looking snazzy:

...And a shot from the back to show off the bustle, and the rest of the oh-so-talented League of S.T.E.A.M.:

No idea how I'll further develop this but, for the time being, I'm pretty damn happy with the outcome. :)
